Report: Carols by Candlelight proceeding

Christmas tradition may look considerably different this year.

Christmas tradition Carols by Candlelight is still expecting to be held this December, but it may look considerably different given the global pandemic.

Peter Ford told 3AW, “Something that is going ahead is Carols by Candlelight. That of course is such an iconic Melbourne event.

“It is happening, although quite what form and shape it’s going to take is still a bit of a mystery. But the plan is still to have it at the Myer Music Bowl, which raises an interesting question because if you look at the plans (Victoria has) for reopening entertainment venues, they’re a long way down the track, and they certainly indicate that outdoor entertainment is going to be the first thing to come to life.”

Vision Australia is yet to outline its plans or release ticketing.

At this stage the Melbourne Cup is also expected to proceed, but may not have crowds.

  1. This has to go ahead if it can at all be done safely. Just what Melbourne and the world needs. Maybe they could do it as a broadcast only event?? And the hosting arrangements may have to change if borders stay closed.

  2. Ah…..Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without Denis Walter, Anthony Callea and his bedazzled microphone, Silvie Paladino’s God bothering and David Hobson singing ‘The Holy City’. And, best of all, following along to the snarky tweets during the telecast….
