SBS VICELAND tribute to Chadwick Boseman

In 2014's Get On Up, the late Chadwick Boseman played a young James Brown.

SBS VICELAND has added Get On Up, a Chadwick Boseman film, to its schedule.

In the 2014 film Boseman starred as a young James Brown, chronicling his rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history.

Director Tate Taylor recalls to Variety, “Chadwick was a perfectionist and a consummate professional. He shared my love of collaboration. He believed, like me, that good ideas can come from anybody anytime, anywhere. But he also taught me about dedication, resilience and so much about love. He listened to me as a partner, not as a critic. If he or I questioned the other’s opinion, we talked about it openly and deeply and always ended up with a solution neither of us saw coming. He let himself go in his performance without any sense that people were watching him. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen. He stayed in character not because that was his method, but because he became James Brown.”

Boseman tragically died on the weekend 4 years after being diagnosed with colon cancer, aged just 43.

Updated: 8:30pm Wednesday September 9 on SBS VICELAND.

  1. @David Knox: The SBS VICELAND Channel proceeded with showing the originally advertised film (One Hour Photo starring the late, great Robin Williams) not “Get On Up” starring the recently departed Chadwick Boseman as James Brown. Do you know if there is any plans to re-schedule this tribute screening for Chadwick Boseman on any of the SBS channels or any other TV network/channel soon ?
