Documentary Desert One, on failed 1979 mission to end the Iran Hostage Crisis, screens next week on History.

From two-time-Academy-Award-winning director Barbara Kopple comes the incredible story of Operation Eagle Claw: the spectacularly failed Delta Force mission to end the Iran Hostage Crisis.

On November 4th, 1979, hundreds of Iranian students took up arms and took the American Embassy by storm. What would follow would be one of the biggest blunders in modern American military history, resulting in the death of 8 American soldiers, the electoral victory of Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter and the earliest foundations of certain present-day extremist Islamic groups.

It also completely reshaped how our Special Forces operate. This film aims to take an all-inclusive, 360-degree view of the incident, interviewing the captors, the hostages, the military personnel involved and President Carter himself.

Tuesday November 3 at 8.30pm on History.
