Broadcasters stump up on Cricket

Seven has paid $10m to Cricket Australia while Foxtel has paid in full on $33 million instalment.

Seven and Foxtel have both paid Cricket Australia outstanding monies.

Sydney Morning Herald reports Seven has paid the $10 million it owed just days before arbitration, while Foxtel has paid in full the $33 million instalment it was due to make over a fortnight ago.

Both broadcasters are unhappy with the quality of the Big Bash League this season, fearing the talent pool will be diluted by supersized international squads in hubs. Foxtel is also concerned over what changes will have on the party atmosphere in the stands.

Last week CA indicated for the first time that it would give offer a discount on the six-year $1.18 billion deal signed in 2018.

Seven insists its decision to broadcast the current women’s series against New Zealand is an indication it is showing good faith.

Seven and Cricket Australia head to arbitration talks next week.
