Casting Guild Awards move online

Annual awards recognising casting in film, TV, theatre to go virtual in late November.

The Casting Guild of Australia Awards will be presented online this year, with a reimagined virtual ceremony via Facebook.

The event will be hosted by Bert and Amanda LaBonté on Saturday 28 November.

Newly appointed CGA President, David Newman said: “In an unprecedented year, witnessing the entertainment industry shut down, our members on average suffer an 82% loss of income, and some get sick with Covid-19 – we are still here! The CGA Awards this year will be a testament to our resilience, not only as small business owners but also as a casting community and members of the wider arts industry. We’re looking forward to celebrating not only outstanding casting achievements but also our community that has proven to be more important than ever.”

Nominees will be announced in November. The 2020 CGA Rising Stars will also be presented at the online ceremony, with recipients announced in early November.

Launched in 2015, the CGA Awards is the only casting awards ceremony in the southern hemisphere that celebrates and recognises casting across all mediums including film, television, advertising, theatre and online content. The annual Awards Ceremony seeks to acknowledge and support the critical role casting directors play in bringing together great casting opportunities both on a national and international stage.

The online event will be streamed on Facebook thanks to Joshua Robson Productions, with guests invited to a private Facebook group to view the event.
