Cops resuming filming in the USA

After being axed, US observational series resumes -but episodes are only for international markets.

Previously-axed US observational show Cops is back in front of the cameras once more.

But episodes will not air stateside.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in Washington said in a statement, “We have a longstanding relationship with Cops and [series producer] Langley Productions, and we are pleased they have decided to return, highlighting the outstanding work our deputies provide to all of you.”

A spokesperson for Langley Productions told The Hollywood Reporter that the episodes are being filmed to fulfil commitments in international territories where Cops still airs.

Cops was axed by the ViacomCBS-owned Paramount Network in June after a whopping 33 seasons after the death of George Floyd. Reports claimed officers would sometimes coerce subjects into signing releases to be filmed for the show, and that crew members had carried weapons and assisted police.

A&E also cancelled Live PD.

Cops has screened in Australia on 10 BOLD while Live PD aired on 9RUSH.

  1. “Reports claimed officers would sometimes coerce subjects into signing releases to be filmed for the show” Cops being cops.

Also I wonder if they’re even going to address any of the systemic racism or police brutality issues that have been highlighted recently or if they’re going to pretend everything’s fine. (I think I know the answer)

    1. Sadly, no US network would touch this show at the moment. However, I suspect that in a year or two, when everyone’s forgotten about this year’s events, it’ll return in the US, almost certainly on a different channel.
