Hot Seat’s take two

When an episode failed to record, Nine game show had to do it all over again.

A couple of interesting stories have popped ever since TV Tonight broke the news on Hot Seat‘s move to Queensland.

Some got very worked up over Eddie McGuire supposedly breaking protocol to attend a nightclub, but that was a non-story given he had completed 14 day quarantine and moved hotels in order film the Nine series.

News.com.au reported that with no audience the new episodes come without an “Ask the Audience” lifeline. Instead contestants get to Ask Eddie (as per the international format, the host doesn’t see the answer until the time expires).

“It’s a bit of a change. They’re all using it too, they’ve put the pressure on,” he told radio Triple M’s The Hot Breakfast on Wednesday.

“I’ve gone all right so far. Just because I ask the question doesn’t mean I necessarily know it. I mean, I know most things,” he joked.

“I had one bloke up for $50,000 who put it on me the other day. That was a nice and tough one. A literature question too.”

Meanwhile The Australian reported one of the new Queensland episodes did not record properly and had to be entirely re-shot.

Nightmare.

Nine knew it would be forced to honour monies won in both episodes, but as it turns out in both the taped and blank versions, the last contestants standing left with the default $1000 prize.

  1. There was a major error on an answer for a question on the old 1v100, if I’m not mistaken shortly after they filmed that episode they basically pulled the pin, burning off the episodes in the can a year later on Friday nights at 8:30pm – the episode which had the wrong question/answer never made air (I was in the 100)

      1. Correct, no airing no $$$, I can’t remember how much the contestant won, I don’t think it was much – sometimes they’ll pay if the show gets axed as a goodwill gesture

  2. There have been many stuff ups over the years. One that comes to mind is when the “question computer” was misbehaving for a whole day of taping. Eddie was furious and was constantly berating the crew, in front of an audience. When the episodes went to air, obviously they were heavily edited, but Eddie’s foul mood was still evident.

      1. 2004, and video wouldn’t be available as the outbursts were during breaks in filming. I was working on set that day, the only time I ever worked on Millionaire

  3. Is that correct about Nine having to honour any money won in the non-recorded episode?
It used to be part of a gameshow contestant agreement that money would only be paid if the episode went to air.
