Seven News sports presenter and Telethon host Basil Zempilas is the new Perth Lord Mayor elect.
Zempilas, who is a former Weekend Sunrise presenter, last night fending off competition from mayoral hopeful Di Bain.
The father of 3 led with a campaign to “reboot Perth’s heart.”
Last week he confirmed he would depart 6PR Breakfast, owned by Nine Entertainment. A date for that departure has not been announced.
Meanwhile there’s another big weekend ahead this week, with a two day Telethon taking place from the Crown Theatre.

I wonder if the WA Libs are head hunting Rick or Sue to take on McGowan at the next state election? If they do, McGowan is toast!
not a shock with how blatantly wannabe newscorp Channel 7 have been about him, a real shame Australia is going down where the so called “news” medai can blatantly endorse one of their own
I know a lot of us actually can’t stand him . Since the election wasn’t mandatory he got in only by a few votes . He won by a nose .
Doesn’t matter if he won by a single vote, That’s democracy. Basil won fair and square. As the saying goes, if you don’t vote, you get the candidate you deserve.
Wow. WA really do love Seven don’t they.
(Checks that it’s not April-1)
Ok, Perth can now become their own country if they like.
Need a pic of Basil in his mayoral robes
Wha? Is this real?
Yep. I take it you’re not from WA otherwise you wouldn’t say this.
So the Mayor of Perth is owned by a media conglomerate?
Yes…Seven pretty much owns Perth now
