WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Music game show Name That Tune is being revived for a US network, but filmed in Australia.
Eureka TV will film episodes in front of an audience adhering to strict COVID protocols at the Aware Theatre, Sydney International Convention Centre from November 12 to December 3.
Contestants are all Americans living in Australia, and the show will have a live band, plus two yet-to-be named American hosts.
Sources suggest it will feature big name stars.
Name That Tune originally ran from 1953 to 1959 before being revived in the 1970s and 1980s.
It was also the very first game show made for Australian TV at TCN9 with pioneering host Bruce Gyngell.
Filming in Sydney sidesteps the ongoing COVID crisis in the US, but Australian audience members will have to follow strict guidelines, including temperature checks, PPE, social distancing, remaining in a designated audience Zone plus QR contact tracing information.

This reminds me of the “Name that Baby” comp on the radio, where people would call in and be played a clip of “baby” from a song and have to identify the song.
Unfortunately not in Sydney to watch it but if I could it would be too distressing watching it but not being able to apply to be a contestant
Sounds like a great show concept. It could probably appeal to fans of Spicks & Specks, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, RocKwiz, Keynotes etc. and music has a great universal appeal. The one issue I can think of is that many tunes or melodies have been adapted and sampled into other songs, so the question researchers would need to be onto that in case someone answers correctly, but not with the song title on the answer card.
This is a great scoop David, well done. Will be interesting to see when US sites begin reporting the story, likely not until a network and hosts are ready to be announced. But with the fortnight of quarantine required and filming commencing on the 13th, hosts must surely already be confirmed. Or perhaps Rob Riggle and Kate Walsh are about to score the gig.

The hosts would have for sure.
I don’t get the negativity about it, it will create jobs for quite a few backstage, including sound & lighting etc.

Agree I’m so sick of the fact that so many quizzes and game shows that are in the USA don’t get made in Australia. I have always said we need a game show network in Australia like on Foxtel where we can make all these shows and play classic shows like they do on America’s game show network. And if they finally do get this up and running I better be one of the producers and executives of it.
I agree. I’m pretty sure there is also a game show channel on UK television. It seems to be one of the more applicable additions that could be added to Australian television, even on a free-to-air multichannel.
When we reach 67m population these things will become more viable here.

Doubt it it would blow American’s minds if they did that. No doubt they would put it in their credits though.
No doubt the Australian audience members will have to look and act like Americans. That could be funny.
I received an email calling for audience members. There were no requirements stipulated. In fact no mention of the name of the show nor the host/s
