NRL Grand Final breaks Live BVOD record

Sunday night’s NRL Grand Final broke a record of its own -the biggest Live BVOD Audience of all time.

Broadcast Video on Demand, sometimes referred to as Catch-Up TV, can be watched either Live (via live streaming) or on-demand via set-top box, personal computer, mobile device or Connected TV.

Sunday’s match between Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm secured a Live Average BVOD Audience of 153,000 on 9Now. This equates to 19.6 Million minutes and 500,000 stream starts.

Overwhelmingly, the content was streamed by People 25-54, with that demographic accounting for 64% of viewing.

The massive digital audience also drove 9Now to achieving its biggest BVOD streaming day ever, with a total of 57.5 million minutes.

Hamish Turner, Nine Program Director, said: “What these figures illustrate is that live sport is such a significant growth area for 9Now. To have more than a quarter of a million people tune into the match via 9Now is a phenomenal result. In the coming months the State of Origin and Australian Open will also deliver significant year-on-year growth to the platform.”

In 2020 ABC iview has the most overall BVOD, while Nine has the most Live.
