Renewed: My Life is Murder

Lucy Lawless mystery gets 10 new episodes -but there are key changes for season 2.

Lucy Lawless mystery series My Life is Murder has been given a second season, although there are key changes on and off screen.

Pre-production is currently underway on the 10 part series in Auckland, relocating the series from Melbourne, where it is produced by Greenstone TV (NZ production house owned by original producers CJZ).

Financing has been raised through a DCD Rights, Acorn TV and Greenstone partnership. TVNZ and Network 10 are also on board.

Acorn TV has North America, UK and Australia premiere rights, with TVNZ having first run in New Zealand and Network 10 having secondary rights in Australia.  DCD Rights has rest of the world.

The series sees Alexa Crowe (Lawless) reunite with her cohort Madison (Ebony Vagulans), however the press release makes no specific mention of Detective-Inspector Kieran Hussey (Bernard Curry).

“… Alexa is ready to use her powers for good and bring her always surprising sleuthing style back at full force in this charming, humorous series. A spectacular new city, ten compelling new crimes and one unstoppable ex-cop… Let the games begin,” the press release notes.

Don Klees, SVP Programming for Acorn TV and Executive Producer, noted, “Acorn TV’s subscribers adored the first season of My Life Is Murder, so we’re thrilled to work with DCD Rights, Greenstone TV and Lucy Lawless on a fun new season. We’re excited to come on board as a production partner for the new episodes and bring the show to even more of our subscribers in new territories.”

Nicky Davies Williams, CEO at DCD Rights, adds, “We have seen strong international success with the first series of My Life Is Murder and we want to build on this with a second. Partnering with Acorn TV, TVNZ, Network 10 and local funding in New Zealand means we have raised the necessary investment to get this highly watchable series straight into production. We know this type of feel-good series is being sought out by many platforms and broadcasters for their viewers at this time and look forward to sharing it with our clients around the world in the coming months.”

Acorn TV also recently renewed Ms. Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in partnership with Seven while DCD was distributor on The Secrets She Keeps.

  1. Great news,i really enjoyed the first series of this show.I just wonder how they’re going to address the relocation of the show though. Are they specifically going to mention that it’s set in New Zealand now,or are they just going to let Auckland double for Melbourne?

  2. She was as I remember an Aussie in it so will she keep her Aussie accent (which was really good) back in NZ or can she divert back to it. It’s going g to be harder for Lucy to keep up an Aussie accent more than an American one when you’re surrounded by the great Kiwi accent.

  3. Fantastic, even though it means I can’t try to be an extra in it. I did suggest this on a post in here several weeks ago so I need to be one of the producers I believe. I’m serious I would love to move to Auckland anyway.

  4. The idea of DI Hussey hiring her as consultant detective was one of the weaker parts. What it really needed was better plots for the mysteries. The most important question is is Captain Thunderbolt returning?

  5. So happy about this! I really enjoyed S1. I don’t know why, but it was a different ‘cop’ show and perhaps that’s what I liked. I will miss Alexa’s apartment though if production is also in NZ! Hopefully they can explain the ‘move’ 😊

  6. I am so happy it is back. I dont have any real issue it moving to NZ. Bernard Curry I dont mind him as a actor but let see where they go with that gap.
