Report: Foxtel bids for rugby union
After reaching an impasse earlier this year, Foxtel is pursuing Super Rugby, the National Rugby Championship & Wallabies Tests.

Foxtel has reportedly made an offer to broadcast rugby union next year.
Foxtel has been paying between $30 million to $40 million a year but wanted to renegotiate the price. Earlier this year the broadcaster and Rugby Australia reached an impasse with Foxtel threatening to walk away.
Industry sources have now told the Sydney Morning Herald Foxtel’s offer was for the Super Rugby, the National Rugby Championship and Wallabies Tests – at a similar price to what it previously paid.
Foxtel, 10 and BSkyB are at the end of a $285 million five-year deal with RA signed in 2015. The code is also trying to secure a new sponsor after Qantas ended its 30-year-long relationship last week.
Foxtel’s bid follows an offer from Network 10 to broadcast the Wallabies Tests. Meanwhile Nine is still in talks with Rugby Australia while Amazon Prime is also reportedly interested in rights.
Former 10 CEO Hamish McLennan is now Rugby Australia’s chairman.
Foxtel and Rugby Australia declined to comment.
