Returning: Mum

UK comedy returns for its second season to ABC next month.

UK comedy Mum returns for its second season to ABC next month.

This premiered in the UK in 2018 with a third season in 2019.

Starring Olivier Award winner and BAFTA nominee Lesley Manville, Mum is a family comedy seen through the eyes of Cathy, a mother in her late fifties who finds herself at a milestone in life after the death of her husband.

Over the course of one year, starting with the funeral in January and ending on New Year’s Eve, Cathy must navigate the everyday realities of this new era of her life alongside the good intentions of her lovably baffling family. Offering a refreshingly funny and modern perspective on an often-overlooked stage in our lives, Mum is the story of a woman discovering who she is again and maybe, finding love second time around.

In the first episode of the returning series it’s Cathy’s 60th birthday and the family are going for lunch.

Production credits: A Big Talk Productions for BBC. Created and written by Stefan Golaszewski.

10pm Friday November 13 on ABC.

  1. I watched all three series but found it hard to sit through at times. The drawcard of course was Lesley Manville but Dorothy Atkinson (pictured here) is brilliant too. I found some of the action and dialogue a bit repetitive and all a bit thin for even 3 x 6 episodes across the run. But there is some payoff to reach the end of the series. Peter Mullan is quietly heartbreaking and Lisa McGrillis has some sweet moments with Lesley’s character. But there was a lot of pain in and around some wry humour.
