SAS Australia breaks 7plus record

SAS Australia has beaten Big Brother as the biggest episode on 7plus.

SAS Australia has shot to the top performer on 7plus.

The premiere episode now has a BVOD audience of 320,000 viewers, surpassing 7plus’ previous record holder, episode one of Big Brother. The first episode now has a national consolidated audience of 1.67m viewers across broadcast and digital.

It’s a tight race in the BVOD space with ABC iview leading in Free to Air share, followed by Seven and Nine.

Brook Hall, Director of Content Scheduling, said: “SAS Australia has not only been a hit on broadcast, but it is now our biggest-ever show on 7plus. Viewers are flocking to the original, uncensored versions on 7plus, driving record audiences.

“The multi-platform success of SAS Australia is set to continue as the series unfolds.”

7plus is the number one commercial free-to-air BVOD service, with a 42.5% market share so far in the 2020 survey year.  This year, 7plus is growing faster than any other BVOD service. Each week, over 200 million minutes are streamed on 7plus across thousands of unique pieces of content and 12 live channels.

      1. Seven’s classification team have taken an intriguing approach:

The 7:30pm eps broadcast have been “M” and the language element has had “Some Coarse Language”

The’ve been encoring SAS late at night but using the “uncensored” eps (as seen on 7Plus), but the language cons advice changes to “Frequent Coarse Language” but still “M”.

To me, as I’ve also been watching on 7Plus uncensored, the F-words are pervasive, non-stop and in a barely 45min run time (hardly any ads online). Shouldn’t this constitute MA15+? Tons of examples that are commensurate to the amount of swearing and get MA. Wonder if Seven or indeed ACMA have received complaints?

          1. I think so, they’re all ‘bleeped’ on broadcast.

And considering both versions are “M”, the “uncensored” is clearly just an incentive to push 7Plus.
