Sharpen your knives for Dexter revival

A limited series revival with star Michael C. Hall is confirmed for 2021.

Dexter is getting a revival with Showtime ordering a limited series with star Michael C. Hall.

Production 10 new episodes is set to begin in 2021. Former series showrunner Clyde Phillips is also set to return.

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment for Showtime.

“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”

Hall starred as Dexter Morgan throughout for eight seasons along with Jennifer Carpenter as sister Deb.

But despite a rabid fanbase the show’s finale in 2013 was widely panned. Rumours of a revival have swirled for some time.

A new series could be a contender for Paramount+, the revamped streaming version of 10 All Access next year.

  1. They deliberately dragged it on, stuffed the ending and didn’t provide any closure because they knew they would bring it back. People have forgotten.

Showtime don’t deserve our eyeballs for this one.

  2. The only way this could possibly work is if the first episode opens with Dexter waking up from a deep sleep, wondering what the hell that nightmare was about that he just experienced (aka the last episode of the final season). If they can’t undo the damage that one episode did to the whole series, then there’s no point trying to revive this as the damage is already done.

    1. Oh god I hope they don’t use that lazy storytelling technique of him waking up from a sleep.
What they need to do is own that horrid finale and cleverly write themselves out of it like the early seasons of Dexter did so consistently and thrillingly well.

  3. I absolutely can not wait!!! So exciting!! Had to check it wasn’t an April Fools Joke! I hope it is that good that we forgot how horrendous the finale was…..

  4. This is amazing news. I’m sooo excited!! The finale was just godawful so hopefully this goes some way to righting that wrong. I guess now it won’t be topping ppl’s lists of all time worst series finales with the addition of these ten episodes haha!
I’m also super excited as Clyde Phillips, who helmed the extraordinary first 4 seasons is back for this batch!!
    But… I really hope it doesn’t go to Paramount+

  5. The final scenes in Alaska of the finale ep did rather imply he was sliding into the abyss of being a common or garden variety serial killer with all of his surrounding support structures of job, family, co workers etc removed-perhaps he’ll return to help his step daughter out, although that would be very close to the Kev Costner film ‘Mr Brooks’…
