Ten very noticeably ran dead last night when it would have been a good opportunity to counter-program and get the non-sports audience (same is true of Saturday night.)
Key sports are very popular but there are also millions out there looking for alternatives – this should have been the nights they launched the biggest of their big guns and annihilated the opposition. Instead they chose to run a lazy schedule. Avoid competing and you avoid winning.
Launching a new show against NRL GF would be certain failure. Graham Norton was an entertainment alternative.
It surprisingly wasnt always that way, I recall Masterchef (back during its original peak) beating NRL Grand final or state of origin on the same night in 2009 or 2010. Even weeks were won by a rival, I think Seven did it all 4 times in 2011 and once or twice a couple of years ago.
ABC News AM topping the Secondaries with 255,000, I bet it was Melbourne People tuning in for good News from Dan Andrews. Of course instead we were left with the feeling that we’re in the Chinese Restaurant episode of Seinfeld and Dan Andrews is the maître d’hôtel telling as all it’ll be another *5 or 10 minutes. Which more than likely left a lot of George Costanza’s out there watching yelling at there screens: You know we’re living in a society!
*N.B: That’s how I keep hearing the 3 more weeks stuff anyway, have to keep some sanity in good check and humour helps hey.
