More departures at ABC this week…
7:30 senior reporter Tracy Bowden has departed after 20 years at ABC.
During her time at the broadcaster she covered the Schapelle Corby drug trial and served as a US correspondent. She previously covered the Tiananmen Square massacre for the Nine Network in 1989, and the trial of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain in 1982 for the Macquarie Radio Network.
Yesterday Executive Producer Justin Stevens tweeted, “Tonight @abc730 farewells our wonderful reporter Tracy Bowden, who has worked on the program since 2000. One of the nicest & most talented people in the industry. We will miss her greatly. Good night & good luck.”
Leigh Sales also tweeted, “I heartily endorse this – one of the very finest reporters at the ABC whose stories always have heart & empathy. And a fantastic colleague. We love her!” after a farewell at the end of last night’s programme.
Thank you for all the lovely messages. I feel quite overwhelmed and very fortunate.

The Guardian reports investigative reporter Quentin McDermott, who spent 21 years at ABC, and senior Sydney reporter Philippa McDonald have also departed.
Quentin has been a producer at Australian Story, and a senior investigative reporter for Four Corners. He joined the ABC in 1999, as Supervising Producer at Lateline, producing the documentary Stop at Nothing – The Lance Armstrong Story.
Thanks so much @meadea and everyone who has responded with such warm messages of support. The priority now is to buttress the ABC and its stellar teams against any further cuts.

I just hope the ABC can survive this government….not that I think any other will be handing out cash….Maybe it will become like PBS in the US…where we have to put our hands in our pockets.
