Sorry fans of The West Wing….

An upcoming reunion of The West Wing cast will not be screening in Australia.

The HBO Max special which reunites Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Bradley Whitford in a a theatrical staging of the “Hartsfield’s Landing” episode.

The event is a fundraiser for When We All Vote, a non-partisan, non-profit organisation co-chaired by Michelle Obama. Creator Aaron Sorkin has also written original material.

Special guests include Michelle Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Samuel L. Jackson, and President Bill Clinton — plus Elisabeth Moss reprising her role as the president’s favourite daughter Zoey Bartlet.

But the special is not being sold internationally given it is tied to the US election, and is not available for Australian broadcasters.

Update: Foxtel / Binge have now advised they have secured rights and will screen A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote Tuesday, November 3 at 9.00pm on FOX ONE immediately by the original “Hartsfield’s Landing” episode at 10.00pm.

  1. Considering that the project is to promote the “When we all vote” campaign I don’t suspect that the cast would be expecting much income for their role anyway. It’s not much difference than a ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ skit in the UK or appearing at the Good Friday Appeal in Melbourne.

  2. David,
not sure I can quite believe the last line re: availability outside the US. Of course, the rest of the world would watch- as we are all in one way or another tied to the US election!
However, the production costs would be much less if HBO limits its play to the US and thus can pay the cast and crew that much less!! Does that sound more likely?
