Ben Mendelsohn's US drama is not continuing with HBO -but producers hope to shop it around.

Ben Mendelsohn’s US drama The Outsider is not continuing with HBO -but studio MRC hope to shop the series around.

Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel about the disappearance of a young boy it also features Jason Bateman (who directs), Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Yul Vázquez Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.

“We enjoyed our collaboration with Richard [Price], Jason, Andrew [Bernstein] and the MRC team, and we wish them well in continuing the world created by the brilliant Stephen King,” HBO said in a statement.

“We thank HBO for a great partnership in the first season and for helping to bring in a massive audience who fell in love with The Outsider,” said MRC Television President Elise Henderson. “We are looking forward to finding a new home for this remarkable series.”

The move comes despite the show being HBO’s most-watched premiere season in the last three years with 11 million multi-platform viewers per episode.

The Outsider aired in Australia on FOX Showcase.
