Nine wipes competition with Origin III

Ratings: Nine pulls a huge 44% share as Qld Maroons triumph over NSW Blues.

Queensland Maroons won the decider State of Origin III match over NSW Blues, drawing 1.88m viewers, the highest of the three 2020 games.

In Sydney there was a huge audience of 769,000 followed by Brissy at 609,000. The figures are down on 2019’s Game III of 2.00m -but given the COVID context not by a lot.

ABC was the only serious alternative last night.

Origin was also more than triple the competition of Hard Quiz (586,000), 7:30 (571,000), Inside the Queen Mary (290,000) and Jamie’s Quick & Easy Food (267,000 / 212,000).

Later Gruen drew 591,000 then Reputation Rehab (328,000), Britain’s Got Talent (185,000), By Royal Appointment: Serving The Queen (161,000) and Bull (141,000).

Nine network easily won Wednesday with 44.2% then Seven 19.5%, ABC 17.1%, 10 12.1% and SBS 7.1%.

Nine News was 782,000 / 770,000 for Nine. In 4 cities Hot Seat was 341,000 / 226,000.

Seven News (1.00m / 992,000) was best for Seven. Home & Away was 543,000 and The Chase 524,000 / 330,000.

ABC News pulled 686,000 for ABC. Planet America wrapped its season at 324,000 with The Drum on 162,000.

The Project pulled 408,000 / 261,000 for 10. 10 News First (342,000 / 218,000). But The Masked Singer USA was a humiliating 74,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (162,000), Building Britain’s Canals (157,000), Strictly Jewish (130,000) and Mastermind (81,000).

Bluey led multis at 201,000.

  1. US masked singer is hard going to get through. Too many performers, groups, judges and just drawn out. Feels like it has been going for months and there are still 8 remaining.

    I really hope the Aussie series stays as it is, and doesn’t look to the US for ideas about changes to the format.

  2. Goliath said something during yesterdays episode of The Chase Australia. He said and I quote “I thought you did well in that cash builder, there were some tough questions, and I thought you might have actually needed the help of a mental health professional but there’s never one around when you need one, huh”. I know he’s one of the good guys but I felt it was said in poor taste.
