Publisher drops Pete Evans

TV chef courts controversy once again...

Publisher Pan McMillan has ended its deal with controversial chef and former MKR chef Pete Evans after a social media post with a cartoon that included a neo-Nazi symbol known as the Black Sun.

“An oldie but a Goldie. There are many different interpretations of this image. Peace and love to all always,” he wrote.

One interpretation is its wide used by neo-Nazi groups, and by convicted Christchurch mosque shooter Brenton Tarrant.

“Pan Macmillan does not support the recent posts made by Pete Evans. Those views are not our views as a company or the views of our staff,” it said.

“Pan Macmillan is currently finalising it’s contractual relationship with Pete Evans and as such will not be entering any further publishing agreements moving forward.

“If any retailer wishes to return Pete Evans’ books please contact Pan Macmillan.”

Bookstore Dymocks later said it, too, was pulling Evans’ books from their shelves.

After deleting the post Evans told his followers, “Sincere apologies to anyone who misinterpreted a previous post of a caterpillar and a butterfly having a chat over a drink and perceived that I was promoting hatred. I look forward to studying all of the symbols that have ever existed and research them thoroughly before posting. Hopefully this symbol resonates deeply into the hearts of ALL!” alongside an image of a heart.

Evans has also been rumoured to be joining I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, with 10 teasing a “renowned chef” is on the mix.

Yesterday some social media users vowed they would not watch the show if Evans was involved.

Updated: The list of companies to now disassociate include Pan Macmillian, Dymocks bookstore, BIG W, Coles, Baccarat, Woolworths, House homewares, Target, Kmart, Booktopia, David Jones and Channel 10.

  1. Poor guy. Everyone is entitled to their views, I don’t always agree with him but it’s a dangerous game to deplatform someone just because you don’t agree with him.

    1. I’d rather have Pete Evans, at least he’s not a criminal; he only displayed a symbol (which he should be free to do so), he didn’t commit payroll fraud on a massive scale.
