Rose d’Or Awards 2020: nominees

ABC lands Australia's only nominations in prestigious global TV awards.

ABC ME series First Day and Ludo Studio’s digital series Content are amongst nominees in the prestigious Rose d’Or Awards for 2020.

First Day, produced by Epic Films, Australian Children’s Television Foundation and ABC will compete in the Children and Youth category with entries from UK, USA, Canada & Belgium.

Ludio Studio’s Content produced for ABC was “the world’s first scripted vertical comedy set on a phone.”

Aussie Marc Fennell was again nominated in the Podcast category, this time for Nut Jobs: Cracking California’s Strangest $10 million Heist.

The awards also added a special category, Innovation in the Time of Covid.

Markus Sterky, chair of the European Broadcasting Union TV Committee, said: “The Rose d’Or Awards have always been a major moment in the industry calendar but this year, more than ever, being able to celebrate our achievements is fundamental. This year has seen a record number of entries and the resulting nominee list is truly international, with a diverse range of topics and talent, showing breath-taking quality. That these productions have been created in spite of the challenges of Covid-19 is phenomenal.   For me, impactful stories matter and can resonate with audiences for decades. This is a shortlist that we will still be talking about in years to come.”

Nine Head of Content and Rose d’Or judge Adrian Swift told TV Tonight, “It’s been an honour to be asked to judge some of the best television in the world in several categories in this year’s Rose d’Or awards. It’s also been incredibly difficult given the wonderfully high standard of entries. I wish all the finalists the best of luck. You are some of the best of the best in a difficult year to make television”.

This year’s Rose d’Or Awards will be presented in a virtual ceremony, hosted by comedian Nish Kumar. The ceremony will stream on Rosedor.com on December 9.
