“To be 100% clear, we love the Cricket”

Here's the BBL schedule Seven hopes to screen despite no agreement yet with Cricket Australia.

Seven still hopes to broadcast Cricket this summer, issuing the Big Bash League schedule to advertisers.

But it is yet to finalise an outcome with Cricket Australia, which is being mediated through the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration.

According to the AFR, CEO James Warburton today told shareholders at Seven’s annual general meeting, “Our ongoing process with Cricket Australia is much talked about. To be 100% clear, we LOVE the CRICKET and we have a huge amount of respect for the athletes.

“Ultimately, we pay for media rights to deliver quality content and strong audience numbers. We paid for and expect a first-class product and we will hold Cricket Australia accountable to provide it, even if it means at times, we’re outspoken.”

  1. In Seven’s defence. I know there’s a pandemic and all, but a Big Bash League full of nobody’s from state cricket divisions probably isn’t what they had in mind when they signed on.
Hopefully there’s a solution somewhere in the middle ground that can be negotiated.

    1. What doesn’t appear to match 7s argument is that due to pandemic there is less International cricket and less competing T20 leagues so the big bash this year is likely to be bigger than the last 2 seasons in terms of international star power (although maybe less Aussie star power)? Time will tell about the quality of the product.

  2. I love my cricket too and am thoroughly looking forward to the tests and other international games. Unfortunately, for me, the BBL goose is cooked now. It was a great ‘product’, with plenty of stars and almost every game had a bearing on outcome of the tournament. Now it’s close to two months long, many less big names and not really a ‘must-watch’ event anymore.

    1. I certainly agree ,there were some great series when it was 8 games each and 3 finals ,then it all went downhill ,the so called summer of 🏏 is a misnomer ,4 tests and 60 plus BBL games on FTA and that’s it folks ,glad I’ve got Kayo so all aok for ODIs and T20 games.

      1. That’s still 16 too many, if you take the job of telecasting it on, show it all. And for us people in the bush, many of these games will be in glorious SD, as the multi channels on Prime are still stuck in the 90’s…
