Tom Gleeson to host AACTAs

Tom Gleeson to host Television section, Rove & Susie Youssef to host film section.

Tom Gleeson will host the Television section (evening) of the 2020 AACTA Awards next Monday, with Rove McManus and comedian Susie Youssef to host the film section (afternoon).

The awards are split in two this year to comply with COVID restrictions.

“I’m very pleased to be hosting the AACTA Awards for achievement in television,” said Gleeson. “Having said that, I once hosted an awards night for convenience stores and handed out a trophy for best bread display. So clearly I’ll say yes to anything. I’m really looking forward to a fun night and finally having a reason to iron a shirt this year!”

Rove said, “In a year where I’m sure we were all thinking at some point that the awards might not even happen, it’s wonderful to know I’ll be part of the hosting duties as AACTA celebrates its tenth birthday. I will be stressing in the lead-up about who’ll be able to attend this year but that’s pretty standard for most parties I throw.”

Susie Youssef added. “Co-hosting the AACTA Awards with Rove McManus makes me feel both very proud and somewhat taller. I adore the friends I have made working in the weird and wonderful world of the arts and I can’t wait to celebrate with them, but the biggest winner on the night will be my spanks for best supporting role in the year of a pandemic.”

A broadcast will take place on Wednesday night on Seven.

Now all we need is for the organisers to realise what a good idea that is; and put 6 months between the TV and Film awards in future.
