Airdate: NYE2020: New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Zan Rowe & Charlie Pickering host NYE celebrations with music from both Sydney & Melbourne.

This year more than any other, we will be watching New Year’s Eve celebrations from the safety of our couches (good riddance 2020!).

ABC is screening events hosted by Zan Rowe and Charlie Pickering, with music from both Sydney & Melbourne, while Rove McManus, Kiki Masella and Chenelle Carr host proceedings for kids.

8:30pm Thursday December 31 on ABC.

For many Australians, for all different reasons, 2020 has been a difficult and challenging year. In a year of continual uncertainty, one thing is assured, the ABC will say goodbye to 2020, as it started it – celebrating across the country and ringing in the new year with music, fun and fireworks. Kicking off at 8:30pm is a special family-friendly show hosted by Rove McManus, Kiki Masella and Chenelle Carr which culminates in a highlight of fireworks displays from years gone by.

At 9pm hosts Zan Rowe and Charlie Pickering will present a stunning line up of musical talent from two iconic Australian locations – the boardwalk of the Sydney Opera House and from Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

8:30pm New Year’s Eve 2020: Early Night Show (ABC ME)
ABC Children’s New Year’s Eve 2020: Early Night Show is a fun-filled half hour of music, comedy and razzle-dazzle as we count down to a ‘best of’ 9pm fireworks.

  1. The NYE program could have more variety, like the Pub Quiz as mentioned in the comments, or other concepts. And not padded out throughout the night which ruins continuity. The Rage overnight program is often quite good, but should have more party hit music classics and less Indie and other music that would not resonate with the viewing demographic and is more for their friends and associates than the general viewers. It also ruins the continuity and flow. The point I make based on past NYE programming, the entire line-up, is to program the event for Australia and not a Newtown and Enmore or other inner-Sydney audience.

There’s nothing worse than a disappointing NYE and New Year’s so I hope they make it worthwhile.
