Billy Connolly: “Remember, I’m happy where I am”

Sir Billy Connolly final TV special, Billy Connolly: It’s Been A Pleasure, screened earlier this week in the UK.

The 78-year-old comedian revealed he has come to terms with the fact that his Parkinson’s disease will eventually kill him but said he is remaining positive.

“It’s got me, it will get me and it will end me, but that’s OK with me,” he said.

Billy and his wife Pamela Stephenson, 71, have moved to Florida, where she said he is in “great’ health” and working on his autobiography.

The special celebrated his 50-year career in comedy and mark his retirement, with tributes and memories from the likes of Russell Brand, Sir Elton John, Sir Lenny Henry, Dustin Hoffman and Sir Paul McCartney.

“I’m very touched,” he added.

“But remember I’m happy where I am, and it’s because of you and what you made my life. I’ve got no complaints at all.”

Viewers flooded Twitter with ‘happy retirement’ wishes as they admitted that they had cried from both emotion and laughter during the hour-long show while reviews noted, “Yes, at 78, he won’t be on stage and more, and yes, there were a few emotional minutes at the end where that loss was noted – with Connolly especially touched when the tributes were shown to him. But It’s Been A Pleasure – his usual words to sign off a stand-up gig – was so much more about what he brought to the world that what we’ve lost by his retirement.”
