The Block demolishes Hampton houses

Producers are currently demolishing homes ahead of their 2021 season of The Block.

Homes purchased in Hampton by Nine for the next season of The Block are currently undergoing demolition.

Nine purchased 5 properties in Bronte Court at a price of $11.5m, including one recently-renovated home, originally designed by architect designed by Neil Clerehan, which locals wanted considered for heritage.

Nine is yet to confirm its plans for the 2021 season, which are rumoured to include “house swapping” by renovating teams.

A further cul-de-sac property on the opposite side of the street will also feature.

Producer Julian Cress denied there was an heritage value on properties, recently told Domain, “Most people who follow the program understand The Block is a renovation program, it’s not a demolition program.

“We are not in the business of demolishing houses.”

  1. I live close by and in my view, only one of the houses probably needed bulldozing. Two of the houses only have one room left, everything else has been demolished. They start work around 7am and the noise of the excavators, diggers and the dumping of stuff into huge metals skips can be heard for miles around. They are now putting up huge wooden hoardings across the front of each house, so we won’t be able to see what is going on, once rebuilding starts. Filming starts late February.

  2. If the properties were rundown, had no heritage value or weren’t compatible with modern living standards you could understand the demolition but some had recently been renovated and improved. I’m no greenie but this type of waste boils my blood. So much for recycling and sustainability. I’ll stick with ABC’s “Restoration Australia”. At least they demonstrate values consistent with modern thinking.

    1. No. 8 Bronte Court (house at the top of this page) was owned by Nicole Jacobs a property buyer or somesuch and well known to The Block. She was paid $3m for her place. Reportedly had something in the order of $750k of renovations recently done. All of it was destroyed. Waste on a grand scale. What was left of the house – just the front room with the windows – was cut in half the other day and a huge crane brought in to lift it and shift it to the back of the block. Who knows what they are planning to do.
