US to adapt The A Word

NBC is developing a remake of drama about a family’s life after their young son is diagnosed with autism.

NBC is developing a remake of The A Word which explores a family’s life after their young son is diagnosed with autism.

The series began as an Israeli drama known as Yellow Peppers before it was adapted in the UK featuring Lee Ingleby, Morven Christie, Max Vento, Molly Wright and Christopher Eccleston. Greek and Dutch editions also exist.

The US version has Arika Mittman (Paradise Lost, Timeless, Dexter, Elementary) attached as showrunner and writer.

A spin-off series, following the married life of Ralph and Katie, was recently commissioned in the UK.

The A Word screens in Australia on BBC First and is currently screening Tuesday nights on SBS.
