Vale: Chrys Hong

Former Plate of Origin contestant has tragically died, just months after revealing Stage Four colon cancer.

Former Plate of Origin contestant Chrys Hong, pictured right, has tragically died at the age of 30.

In August she confirmed she was suffering from Stage Four colon cancer, but continued to compete on the Seven series with Team China friend, Mandy (left).

Her family confirmed on her Instagram page, “Chrys has passed away on night of 17 December peacefully and surrounded by love. Thank you all for your love and support for Chrys. We will continue to post her cancer fighting journey footage and cooking blogs, in the spirit of spreading the positive energy of Chrys.”

In August, Hong — known as DJ Kitty Coda — reported experiencing stomach aches on set.

“There were no symptoms besides the pain, which I had had since the middle of filming,” she said.

“But the pain was just there all the time, it wasn’t like an on and off thing.”

Remarkably she made herself available for press interviews for the Seven series. Chrys Hong features in the first episode with Team China friend Mandy, next Sunday night. She also encourages everyone to seek other medical opinions.

“There might be a time limit on my lifetime now but I will do whatever I can to fit as much in,” she said.
