IOC denies Olympics cancellation

The International Olympic Committee has denied a report that the Tokyo Olympics will be cancelled in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
London newspaper The Times that said the Japanese Government had privately concluded the Games would have to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, citing one unidentified source from the ruling coalition.
But it was not confirmed.
“There has been no discussion on cancellation,” (IOC) vice-president and chair of the Tokyo Coordination Commission John Coates said later.
“At the end of the day, politicians do have to take into account the feelings of those inside their party and the general public.
“But this is not the message we are getting from Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga or the president of the Tokyo Organising Committee Yoshiro Mori, himself a former prime minister.”
The Times report was also dismissed by Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who said on Friday in Parliament that Japan was determined to realise the Tokyo Olympics.
A “worst-case scenario” being planned for is not a cancellation of the Games, but further restrictions that might be necessary to deal with any spike in Covid-19 infections.
Tokyo has reported more than 1,000 Covid-19 infections for nine straight days.

It’s called fake new. Not to say it still wont be cancelled but the news report was not from any one official but as you said unnamed sources.
Wow I can’t believe the olympics would even be considered at this time …is Seven still claiming its all systems go as they did last year despite all things pointing to a no show ?
Would have to wonder how many days in toll they get their first case, and then what happens, shut that sport down but others continue. Be a difficult thing to organise when so many competitors.
