John Bishop joins Doctor Who

Time for the next chapter, and it starts with a man called Dan.

UK actor & comedian John Bishop (Skins, Accused, Fearless) is joining Doctor Who as a regular character.

Bishop will play Dan, who will quickly learn there’s more to the Universe(s) than he could ever believe.

“If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it. It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie (Whittaker) and Mandip (Gill),” he said.

Chris Chibnall, Showrunner, adds: “It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man called Dan. Oh, we’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time. Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS.”

Matt Strevens, Executive Producer, BBC Studios, says: “It’s been a total joy having John join the cast and we’ve been having a lot fun on set already. We can’t wait for you to meet Dan when the show returns later this year.”

The 13th series began filming in November and is due later this year.

  1. That last one was meant for cronker as a reply.

Also interesting to note that Christopher Eccleston has done a twelve part audiobook called The Ninth Doctor Adventures which comes out in May, a real case of never say never. David Tennant is also recording another Tenth Doctor series called Dalek Universe that will be released this year as well, but Christopher coming back was more surprising after how negative he’s been.

  2. Doesn’t surprise me, 3 seasons seems to be it lately as Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi did 3 as well, probably partly due to other work being around for them, be interesting to see who they go with next.

  3. Hmmmm, I was kind of hoping that the show would return to the Doctor and one companion for the next season, be just nice for a change to go back to that for a season one two. I’m sure John Bishop will be good, maybe in Catherine Tate kind of way who I still think was one of the best, yes even over Rose.

Ah well let’s see what it can bring as I did enjoy the Revolution of the Daleks episode.
