Love on the Spectrum wins at Real Screen Awards

ABC factual series Love on the Spectrum has won at the Real Screen Awards.

The series which follows seven young adults on the autism spectrum embark on dating, won twice: Best Docu-Reality Series and an Award of Excellence for Reality.

The Real Screen Awards, hosted by actor and comedian Michael Yo, drew 593 entries from 16 countries.

Karina Holden and Cian O’Clery from Northern Pictures said, “The team from Love on the Spectrum is thrilled to have be honoured with both these awards in the global arena of Realscreen. Being judged amongst such outstanding content from around the world and to be held in such esteem by our global industry is a huge accomplishment. Love on the Spectrum was initially supported by Screen Australia through its format development before being picked up by ABC Television for commissioning and then Netflix globally.

“We’re currently in post on Series 2 and excited to share some returning favourites as well as a cast of new participants that we know audiences will fall in love with. It has been hugely rewarding to be involved in a making an original show that has found a place in so many hearts. We hope Love on the Spectrum also inspires creators to make programs that bring respect and inclusion into focus, and prove we don’t need to tear people down in order to grab audiences and create successful television.”

A second season is due on ABC this year.
