Renewed: Rosehaven

Exclusive: Luke McGregor & Celia Pacquola are back in Tassie ready to film Season 5 for ABC.

EXCLUSIVE: ABC comedy series Rosehaven has been renewed for a 5th season.

Luke McGregor and Celia Pacquola will return to their hit series, set in Tasmania’s-own McCallum Real Estate.

Next season Daniel (McGregor) and Emma (Pacquola) are content for things to go back to normal. But Barbara (Kris McQuade) isn’t, and she forces them to take on more responsibility for the business. Could this be the year she finally retires? Meanwhile Daniel is regretting breaking up with the love of his life, and Emma finally gets what she’s always wanted – a Rosehaven-based nemesis.

The 8 part series will begin filming in coming weeks.

“We cannot wait because we’ve been here for a couple of weeks and I just don’t like lying to the good people of Tasmania, who on the street ask, ‘What are you doing here?” Celia Pacquola tells TV Tonight from Tasmania.

Returning cast include Kris McQuade, Noela Foxcroft, David Quirk, Sam Cotton, Anthony Morgan, Mick Davies and -after an absence in Season 4- Katie Robertson as Grace.

“We are very excited to welcome back the very-missed Katie Robinson,” she continues.

“There’s yet another new office! Tassie has become very popular in real estate, which is funny. So we’re moving around a few locations, but the core cast is back.”

“To be honest, ideally, Season Five will be like Season Four,” McGregor explains, “in that everything’s back to normal, I guess. Even though we’ll be filming with very COVID-safe protocols.

“We were deciding on whether to write an episode about COVID, and whether we should acknowledge it in the show. But it was too hard and we didn’t know what it would be like at that point in time. We hope the show is an escape for people.”

“There’s a few tiny nods that crept in, like ‘Staying the course,'” says Pacquola.

“Or ‘Get on the beers,'” McGregor agrees.

Other casting is currently underway but Pacquola & McGregor, who wrote the series during Melbourne lockdown, insist most of the cast are Tasmanian-based. The show draws upon 37 local full-time crew, 16 local casuals, 25 local actors and more than 50 extras.

“We wrote it not planning to write anything on borders. We just really wanted to give all of these characters time to build on the relationships -and giving Luke and I a few extra scenes off!” Pacquola jokes.

“I’m very astonished that the scripts have come out with so much joy in them, when a lot of it was a by-product of getting through lockdown.

“We didn’t have as much of a deadline, so it was more about just writing for fun and to hang out with the characters.”

In a boost to the tourism sector, cast and crew will use at least 1,200 accommodation room nights in Hobart and surrounds during production.

In addition to its Logie and AACTA wins Rosehaven has also been successful internationally, screening on Sundance TV.

“I want to see it dubbed into a different language, like Mexican or Japanese,” McGregor suggests, prompting Pacquola to add, “I want to do a real-time episode, or on the Spirit of Tasmania!”

  1. Great to see Katie Robertson will be returining also, I thought her missing presence was lacking in the last series(I believe she was Pregnant and was not able to return).

  2. Bliss…I want to live in Rosehaven! Forever checking out real estate in Geeveston, New Norfolk, Richmond etc. Maybe I can no longer ‘hack it on the mainland’?

    1. It’s always been my dream to live in Tassie one day, after many memorable holidays there. It is the most beautiful State of Australia…..aah one day 🤗
