Space Invaders coming to Nine

Exclusive: New lifestyle series coming to Nine will help viewers to cut ties with those unused items.

EXCLUSIVE: Nine will launch a new lifestyle series Space Invaders in coming months.

The 10 part series Space Invaders from Melbourne-based WTFN helps viewers to declutter their life.

Nine Programming Director Hamish Turner tells TV Tonight, “A team of experts come in and help a couple or individual. It’s not Hoarders, it’s basically people who have an emotional tie to certain objects and over time it’s taken over their life.

“They go in, basically take everything from inside the house and bring it outside the house and go through the process of looking to either let go of it, keep it or pack it away. It’s a nice show that will site Friday or Saturday, on the back of A Current Affair.

Items which are discarded are then sold with monies going towards a room renovation.

“The first episode is a gut-wrenching episode where the mother was an empty nester, holding on to all the kids’ stuff, and part of the process was helping her let go of that. It has some fantastic results and great makeovers.”

  1. We have a double garage that we can not put our cars in because it’s chockers with so much of everything else !!
Tea chests of engagement & wedding gifts from 1981 & 1982! & numerous other boxes plus lots of other things.
We just seem to rotate things around when we try & see if we can make space but still have as much & never delete anything!
I believe we need someone who’s not emotionally connected to help declutter as we have paid removalists taking everthing from house to house. This is our 12th move in 39 years! We down sized supposedly when we came down here & still can’t put our cars – not even one in the garage!

  2. For many people, pulling everything out onto the lawn (or wherever) puts them immediately into severe stress. They become overwhelmed and shut down, not wanting to let go of anything. I’d like to see a show that takes the opposite plan, showing people how to gently and gradually declutter over time. But then, I am sure that wouldn’t be dramatic enough.

  3. This is a reboot of an Australian show that was on about 10 years ago.

Same format – everything on the lawn to sort.
Except the plan from memory was to give them a spare room.

It was not a success – think it was around the 7pm Sunday timeslot on Channel 7?

    1. “Your Life On The Lawn” (2003) – hosted by Pascall Fox, with Simon Fenner, Lissanne Oliver. 2 rooms in each house were decluttered, with some items sent to auction rooms, others repurposed. About 10 eps made. Based on the BBC series, “Life Laundry” (2002-2004).

  4. Interesting that this series comes from the former producers of The Living Room on 10, before they moved to an in house production, and that decluttering was one of the regular segments on the show. I found the segments to be quite repetitive on The Living Room, and it was only one part of the show…is the decluttering enough to base an entire new show on?

    1. Well Nine should be screening these episodes sooner rather than later because with the NRL and Super Rugby returning, they may not have the Friday or Saturday night timeslots to fit it in.
