Vale: Gregory Sierra

US actor Gregory Sierra, best known for Sanford & Son and Barney Miller has died, aged 83.

He died on January 4th in California, from cancer, according to a family spokesperson.

Following an appearance in All in the Family, he was cast as the easygoing Julio, junkman Fred Sanford’s Puerto Rican neighbour on Sanford and Son, from 1972 – 1975.

He later played Det. Sgt. Chano Amenguale on Barney Miller, across 1975 – 1976.

Other credits included Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, Medical Center, Mod Squad, The Flying Nun, Kung Fu, Murder She Wrote, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The X-Files and the films Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Getting Straight, Papillon, The Towering Inferno and The Other Side of the Wind.
