Andrew O’Keefe seeks hearing under mental health act

Plea of guilty could be entered if application under Mental Health Act fails.

Andrew O’Keefe will seek to have domestic violence charges dealt with under mental health provisions rather than criminal law.

His lawyer, Kara Greiner, today handed a letter to Waverley Local Court indicating O’Keefe is being treated at Prince of Wales Hospital. However, she agreed an “indicative” plea of guilty could be noted, in the event of the application failing.

Magistrate Ross Hudson noted O’Keefe had been an involuntary hospital patient since January 30.

The former Chase host is accused of assaulting his partner Orly Lavee at a Randwick apartment between 11pm and 11.30pm on January 30.

“There’s a dispute as to the facts,” Ms Greiner added.

Earlier this month Seven confirmed O’Keefe’s contract had concluded late last year, ending a 17 yr run.

The matter will return to court on April 20.
