Frasier revival for Paramount+

“I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

It’s official.

Frasier is getting a revival through Paramount+.

Kelsey Grammer will return in the title role but so far David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin are yet to be attached, while John Mahoney died in 2018 (plus assorted pooches).

Cast last ‘reunited’ during a lockdown video chat last April.

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” said Grammer. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

Grammer will executive produce while Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli will serve as writers and executive producers, with Grammnet Productions’ Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon also executive producing.

Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”

Frasier remains one of the most successful US sitcoms of all time, having won 37 Emmy Awards over 11 seasons and 264 episodes.

Paramount+ will launch mid year in Australia.

  1. The great part about this is they can play off the fact that Frasier is now the crochety old man, relying on his son Frederick to guide him through the tech/pandemic world. Plus theres Alice (Roz’s daughter), and Niles/Daphne’s child. Plenty of room to move in characters and stories.

      1. David Hyde Pierce was a broadway actor. Frasier was the only long-running TV role he signed onto and he’s currently contracted for Julia. Peri Gilpin would be the most likely to join.

        And it should be Chicago.

  2. Jane Leeves is currently a series regular on The Resident but they previously weren’t sure if they’d lose her because she had a pilot which didn’t get picked up. I personally like the relationship her character Kit has developed with Randolph Bell so hoping she stays with The Resident in some capacity even if she does appear on this Fraiser revival.
