Health Minister Greg Hunt this morning accused News Breakfast host Michael Rowland of ‘identifying with the Left’ when questioned over a Liberal party logo on a government advertisement for COVID-19 vaccines.
“Oh come on mate. There’s nobody watching who doesn’t identify you with the Left. I’m honest about my origins. I’m bemused, but I did predict to people that Michael Rowland would spend 50% of this interview on this topic, rather than the safety and rollout of vaccines,” Hunt said.
Rowland acknowledged the importance of vaccine information but disagreed with Hunt’s character character summary.
Here it is.
Judge for yourself.
No, Minister, I don't identify with the left. My job as an ABC journalist is to hold ALL sides of politics to account, as I was this morning.
It was, and is, a simple question.
You're welcome back on the show any time.@BreakfastNews #auspol https://t.co/Rkm9poIOiZ

Micheal does work for the ABC. Of course he’s apart of the left! I would say the same for people who work on Sky News! They are apart of the right! I seriously cannot believe that is even newsworthy!
Sky news isn’t tax payer funded to the tune of $20m a week by tax payers…. slight difference don’t you think?
How to get out of a discussion you don’t want to have…political gobblygook….
Extremely rude from Hunt. Michael was just asking a bloody question.
Greg’s been a good health minister as far as i can see, I’m sure there will be politics, there always is, there’s probably an early federal election coming soon.
The ABC have been trying to grab a few cheap headlines recently, wait a minute, Sky News with David Speers at the helm used to do that too, I wonder.
Greg Hunt, just like NSW “Health Minister” Brad Hazzard, have spent their adult lives as career politicians (not doctors), and neither have any background in health/medicine/aged care, and yet they are somehow considered to be “experts” regarding public health, and have the audacity to pocket from the taxpayer for roles that they are unfit to fulfill.
Hunt and his ilk are in no position to be lecturing others about health or integrity of character.
The way I see it, everyone still seems to be more interested in the darn logo than the very important vaccine? I am so over all the petty politics played out day after day after day in the media. Time to worry about what is really important for once instead of everyone thinking they are the experts and know it all.
Michael Rowland wins, Greg Hunt doth protest too much, looking very guilty.
It was Greg Hunt that wasted half the interview. Micheal asked him a simple question that took only seconds. It was the minister that went on a crazy long you lefty saga. Was such a cop out by the minister. Hope this story grows legs and he is held to account.
So, is the Liberal Party paying for the ad? No. There’s an Australian Government logo that is used on most other government-paid ads. Best form of defence is offence isn’t it, Greg Hunt?
I saw this live today and his same question to the NSW Premier last week. She handled him much better, but then again Greg Hunt is Federal. I noticed the interviewing style has become a little more aggressive last couple of years. Virginia and Michael. Now that Lisa is there, Michael seems more intent on the hard interview even though Lisa is no slouch. I prefer her style. It made for lively telly!
All I see here is a shrewd politician; knowing just the right buttons to push to create an opening, to turn this into a political interview. This was planned.
Of course it was planned. He said himself he had a bet with his office staff that it would be a question. But how well has it worked out for him? Just makes him look petty and childish to what was a perfectly reasonable question of right versus wrong. Nothing to do with “left versus right” garbage.
But he made it personal and tried to shift the blame.
