Ray Donovan movie in the pipeline

Liev Schreiber & Jon Voight will revisit Ray Donovan with a new telemovie.

Ray Donovan is getting a feature length film with star Liev Schreiber -but it isn’t clear where this one may screen.

Jon Voight (Mickey) and Kerris Dorsey (Bridget) also returning to the project.

The film picks up where Season 7 left off, with Mickey (Voight) in the wind and Ray determined to find and stop him before he can cause any more carnage. It will also weave together the present-day fallout from the Donovan / Sullivan feud with Ray and Mickey’s origin story from 30 years ago. Production on the film is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year in New York.

Liev Schreiber is co-writing the script with showrunner David Hollander, with Hollander also directing.

“When Ray Donovan went off our air after seven great seasons, we heard from so many of its loyal fans that they were not ready to say goodbye to Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan,” said Gary Levine, co-president of Entertainment for Showtime. “And so, for them, we are delighted that Liev and David are creating a thrilling new chapter of this iconic series.”

Ray Donovan wrapped after 82 episodes in early 2020.

Last February Schreiber said, “It seems like your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”

Showrunner David Hollander had said of the cancellation, “We’re still scratching our heads. We had no indicator that the show was ending. We were behaving creatively as though we were in mid-sentence. And so, there was no sense that this was going to be a completion. This was in no way a series finale.”

The new film is set for Showtime in the US, which could mean the film may head to Paramount+ in Australia given it is a separate project to the series output deal, previously held by Foxtel.
