Returning: The Latest

Late night news returns to Seven this week, anchored by Michael Usher & Angela Cox.

Late night news The Latest returns to Seven from tonight, anchored by Michael Usher and Angela Cox on alternate weeknights.

“I can’t wait to get back into The Latest studio. It’s a milestone week as COVID vaccines roll out across the country. As we do every night on The Latest, we’ll have it covered in every corner of the country,” said Usher.

“We have a really engaged and loyal nightly audience, and we’re looking forward to keeping our viewers up to date in the evening.”

In 2020 the show averaged 251,000 in metro viewers, up 70% on 2019.

Last year Usher told TV Tonight, “The big point of difference with The Latest is that its content is all interviews and crosses. We don’t run reporter stories. I like to think our audience has been flat out all day and evening, and we can help them catch up on the day’s news, and give them an idea of what’s brewing in the morning, so they can go to bed up to speed. I also always try to end The Latest on a positive note. An image of thoughts that’s uplifting before the day ends.”

        1. Michael Usher has demonstrated to be an invigorating addition to the Seven news team. Since joining the team in September 2016, he has been able to emulate his award-worthy journalism aptitudes across a range of Seven news brands including Sunrise, The Latest & The Spotlight series (his work on “In The Blink Of An Eye” deserves to be recognised). He’s been able to weave neatly with the current on-air talent including but not limited to Angela Cox, Monique Wright and former staffer Melissa Doyle. In my estimation, he has accomplished far more during his short stint at Seven then he ever did at Nine.
