Love, monsters, Dylan O’Brien and a cute dog.
Upcoming Netflix movie Love and Monsters has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects produced at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane.
The film comes from the producers of Stranger Things.
Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, all of humanity has been forced to live in underground colonies. When Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien) reconnects over the radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee, who has been living on the coast 80 miles away, he begins to fall for her again. Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, and despite all the danger that stands in his way, he decides he must venture out to find his true love.
Screen Queensland congratulates the VFX team who worked on the monsterpocalypse adventure film, including Queensland VFX practitioners Brian Cox and Matt Sloan, alongside Matt Everitt and fellow Australian Genevieve Camilleri.
Supported by the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, Love and Monsters, filmed at Screen Queensland Studios in Hemmant and on location throughout wider Brisbane in 2019, contributed more than $29 million to the local economy and created 260 jobs for Queenslanders.
Screen Queensland’s Head of Studios, Derek Hall praised the VFX team for their achievement in such a competitive field, adding what a thrill it was to see Love and Monsters, the first feature film out of Screen Queensland Studios, on the list.
“This is a prestigious honour for our highly skilled local VFX practitioners and serves to draw even more global attention on the depth and experience of screen industry talent based right here in Queensland,” Mr Hall said.
Wednesday April 14 on Netflix.
