Applications will open on Monday for the WIN News Scholarship 2021, which comes with 6 weeks experience at the Wollongong office, and an option of a further 6 weeks in regional.

The recipient will receive a $10,000 stipend for the 12-week duration of the scholarship.

This scholarship caters to aspiring journalists who are looking for an opportunity to follow their dreams of a career in the media. This scholarship, will be open to an outstanding student in their final year at university, or a recent graduate and aged 26 years or younger.

This scholarship caters to aspiring journalists who are looking for an opportunity to follow their dreams of a career in the media. This scholarship, will be open to an outstanding student in their final year at university, or a recent graduate and aged 26 years or younger.

WIN News are providing an exceptional opportunity to learn from newsroom leaders and sharpen your reporting skills in the broadcast industry.

The successful applicant will complete a minimum of six weeks at the Wollongong office, with an option to complete the remaining six weeks at one of the following WIN regional news centres:

Hobart
Maroochydore
Shepparton

The recipient will have hands-on experience by accompanying journalists and camera operators out in the field. Under the guidance of the News Director and Chief of Staff, the recipient will have the opportunity to go source, write and voice reports, which will be broadcast in the 6pm WIN News bulletins. The recipient will also have an opportunity to learn from news presenters in the studio.

There is no entry fee to apply for the WIN News Scholarship.

  1. Great forward thinking by WIN. Now if they can get their local ( Hobart news read from who knows where miles away ) suburbs said correctly it would be an OK news service. At least it is local and the competing News on the other two staions is (a) a 30 minute bulletin repeated and (b) virtually non existent.

  2. WIN also works with the Uni of Wollongong to train students and give them hands-on experience in producing pieces locally and working with their network newsrooms, and experiencing and working on every aspect of a news bulletin from sourcing to shooting to editing to captioning to broadcast. It’s a boost for morale when an aunt phones from Cairns to say “OMG I just saw you on WIN News reporting that (national interest story)”. And WIN’s All Australian News is still the only commercial news program reporting on regions nationally. Count how many ‘big smoke’ network reporters started in regional newsrooms.
