Friday Flashback: Welcome Home to 9

Back in 2011 after Nine had been losing badly to Seven it pitched itself as the Home of Comedy.

Back in 2011 after Nine had been losing badly to Seven it pitched itself as the Home of Comedy with its bold live to air comedy Ben Elton: Live from Planet Earth, and acquisitions such as $#*! My Dad Says, Mike & Molly, Two & a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Hot in Cleveland.

There were game shows in Million Dollar Drop, and light entertainment shows The Joy of Sets, This is Your Life and more.

Nine was also home to Top Gear, Top Design, Farmer Wants a Wife and dramas such as Underbelly, Sea Patrol and Rescue Special Ops.

A decade on The Block and Getaway are amongst the survivors, but the network is now leading the ratings (and Farmer has swapped channels).

  1. Wasn’t The Home Of Comedy a disaster? It surely goes into the “What were they thinking?” category. I can remember watching Nine the night the Japanese earthquake and tsunami happened and the news bulletin with the details of the unfolding disaster had a promo for “The Home Of Comedy” before it, and an ad for Ben Elton’s show in the first commercial break. It left a sour taste in a lot of peoples’ mouths.

  2. I like how the way you put in more Fri Flashbacks DK.
Back in 2011, I didn’t watch a lot of 9 shows (as I was very busy with HS Studies), but most of the shows that were promoted didn’t appeal to me at all. Between the Lines also debuted in 2011 but was cancelled due to miserable ratings.
I know that Seven won all 40 ratings weeks, but what was the primetime share for Nine in 2011?
