NRL numbers lift across Foxtel Group

Combined NRL numbers across Foxtel, Kayo, Foxtel Now, Foxtel GO make a strong NRL season debut.

The opening round of NRL has landed as the biggest season opener in subscription history thanks to combined numbers across Foxtel linear, Kayo, Foxtel Now, Foxtel GO.

They average a national audience average of 372,000, up 28% on Round 1 in 2020 (broadcast up 14% on Kayo, Foxtel Now, Foxtel GO up 74%).

Thursday’s Storm v Rabbitohs match averaged of 487,000 combined -as the highest rating Round One and the highest rating Thursday night match ever. Friday’s Broncos v Eels averaged 429,000.

FOX Sports Executive Director Steve Crawley said: “This is a massive beginning for the 2021 NRL season. It continues a run of out-sized audience growth for League on subscription television in 2020 based on our growing number of sports subscribers, which is now at a high water mark in the company’s history.

“We know we need to work hard to deliver an outstanding product that people love and want to pay for. We have a commentary and production team that’s the best in the business, and together with a great line up of shows and personalities, these numbers are further confirmation fans know FOX League is the go-to place for all NRL action.”

  1. I’m sure Fox Sports will be breathing a long sigh of relief especially after last year when Foxtel / Kayo subscriber numbers must have dropped off significantly with all team sports COVID disrupted.
    I suspect that Kayo will have benefited most from the start of this 2021 NRL season, but I’m sure fingers will remain crossed that new subscribers will stay for a few months at least after their trial period is over.
