Quill Awards 2020: winners

Wins for Nine News, 7:30, Australian Story, Four Corners, 60 Minutes, Seven News.

The Melbourne Press Club last night held its annual Quill Awards for Victorian journalism.

Christine Ahern from Nine News won two awards as did Chris Gillett from 7.30. Nick McKenzie was named The 2020 Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year (National Award) for work published and broadcast in Good Weekend and Nine’s 60 Minutes respectively.

Other wins went to Australian Story, 60 Minutes, Four Corners and crew from v.

Kirsty Thomson, Executive Producer of 60 Minutes, said: “Congratulations to Nick on winning journalist of the year at the Quill Awards. This award confirms what we at 60 Minutes already know, that  he is one of the bravest, hardest working journalists in the business. Nick’s stories epitomise the very best of investigative journalism and we are proud and honoured to work alongside him.”

Melbourne’s 9News Director Hugh Nailon said: “The outstanding work recognised tonight represents the high quality of stories our newsroom produced every day of the pandemic.”

The Gold Quill went to Russell Jackson of ABC News (Radio) for his feature on the life and career of Aboriginal AFL player Robert Muir.
