RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under joins Mardi Gras

Stan will reveal its RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under queens on a float at this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade -but there’s no word if RuPaul is appearing.
Filming for the regional reality series has been taking place in New Zealand with RuPaul and Michelle Visage.
Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Nick Forward said: “Mardi Gras celebrates and captures the imagination of Australians, with its colourful explosion of pride and self-expression. We look forward to our partnership with Mardi Gras and being part of parade night to launch our local queens and celebrate with everyone.”
Mardi Gras CEO, Albert Kruger: “Drag Race is so much more than dips, glamour and gags. Drag Race has been pioneering queer voices and providing a platform for queer stories in the mainstream for over 10 years. That sort of visibility goes so far in helping foster understanding and acceptance of LGBTQI+ people all over the world.
“We’re very excited to be helping announce the local queens at Mardi Gras, and showing the rest of the world the talent we have Down Under.”
RuPaul’s Drag Race celebrates the art of drag and encourages self-expression and self-love for everyone. The competitors represent the diverse backgrounds and different styles of drag in Australian and New Zealand. Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will challenge the queens to put on their own unique spin when serving outrageous fashions on the runway, competing in mini and maxi challenges, throwing shade and/or sharing heartfelt moments in the werkroom, and of course, doing whatever it takes to win the “lip-sync for your life” battles.
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras remains one of the world’s largest and most-loved LGBTQI+ celebrations – and on parade night, Stan will reveal all of this season’s queens and will celebrate with the community by participating with its very own Drag Race float.

Great marketing move!
I have to be honest I am not really getting excited of Drag Race Down Under…. I am looking forward to Drag Race Espana which looks so much better with Supremme de Luxe as the host. The drag balls I have seen in Spain are on a higher level than what I have seen in Australia. The Canadian Drag race was brilliant because of the casting it was more fresh than a few of the seasons of Drag Race USA
Really excited for RPDR Down Under, will be interesting to see how we stack up against the UK and US. Also great that they got Ru and Michelle over to film and didn’t cheap out. Canada Drag Race is let down a fair bit by not having RuPaul and Michelle imo. Surely Courtney Act will make some sort of appearance on it too lol.

Also, Courtney was in Aus quarantining while RPDU was filming so timing wouldn’t have worked.
Courtney is one of the hosts of the parade on SBS, so if Ru does come along that will be fun to watch!
Bad idea. The best thing about the first episode is seeing the reveal. Seeing the contestants beforehand will ruin it for me. It’s easy to ignore online articles spoiling it, but I don’t want to have to avoid the TV telecast of the parade.

…but seriously, agree. the “Oh my gawd” shock is one of the most exciting parts of the first episodes.
They always ruveal the queen’s before the series … the US and UK dropped on socials a week before the respective seasons filmed. (and a quick search of many Reddit forums already has the list if anyone is desperate to know before Saturday 😉 )
