Seven announces celeb series, Big Brother VIP.

Updated: Celebrity version of Big Brother to be hosted by Sonia Kruger in an all-new BB house.

Updated: Seven has announced Big Brother VIP, a return to the celebrity version of the hit reality show, produced for Seven by Endemol Shine Australia.

Big Brother VIP will be hosted by Sonia Kruger and feature some of Australia’s best-known celebrities, removed from the world they know and locked away in an all-new Big Brother house.

Seven Network Programming Director, Angus Ross, said: “The new season of Big Brother looks fantastic. We can’t wait for Australia to meet this year’s amazing collection of housemates and to start discovering the many surprises and twists we have built into the show.

“With anticipation for the new season building, the time is right to commission Big Brother VIP. The celebrity format is a proven success around the world. It was a hit here in Australia almost two decades ago and we’re looking forward to introducing a whole new generation of celebrities to Big Brother. Let the game begin.”

Endemol Shine Australia CEO, Peter Newman, said: “We were thrilled to be able to bring the new Big Brother to life on the Seven Network last year.

“Across last year’s season and the upcoming 2021 season, over 40 everyday housemates have had a chance to play Big Brother’s game. We now welcome a host of celebrities to a brand-new house, seal them off from society and see who can survive the twists, turns and surprises that Big Brother has waiting inside. Who will win? Australia will decide.”

“With anticipation for the new season building, the time is right to commission Big Brother VIP,” Seven programming boss Angus Ross said.

“The celebrity format is a proven success around the world. It was a hit here in Australia almost two decades ago and we’re looking forward to introducing a whole new generation of celebrities to Big Brother. Let the game begin.”

Another season of BB follows Seven confirming it had another big title to announce for Q4. It recently announced another season of SAS Australia, with non-celebrities competing, for 2022.

Celebrity Big Brother was broadcast on 10 in 2002 won Dylan Lewis. That cast featured Jay Laga’aia, Kyle Sandilands, Warwick Capper, Anthony Mundine, Red Symons, Gabby Millgate, Kimberley Cooper, Imogen Bailey, Vanessa Wagner, Adriana Xenides and Sara-Marie Fedele.

  1. Can’t wait. I still have the original painting Adriana did of Anthony, during the show. They sold them all for charity and I was lucky to get one 🙂

  2. The thing is though, they always choose the same people over and over for these “celebrity” type shows and it gets old seeing the same faces. If Schapelle Corby ends up on this, i will scream. She is not a VIP. She shouldn’t be on DWTS either. I guess though Australia being limited with the amount of “stars/celebs” makes it difficult….What worries me though too is they saturate the format and its gone again before we know it. Mind you one thing i would like to see is relook at The Voice Kids since they have the rights to The Voice.

  3. Please do it live and let the public vote contestants out!
If not then housemates must not be allowed to discusss voting.
Strategic group voting ruined last season

  4. I did not expect this from 7!
Which ‘VIP’s’ from Home & Away, Sunrise and Dancing with the Stars will we see?!
I would not be surprised to see Sam Mac, Ricki-Lee, Manu, Lynne McGranger or Larry involved!

  5. Curious if this was pitched and commissioned last year as ‘There are so many Celebrities stuck in Australia keen for work!’

Following from the Dancing With the Stars cast announcement, this may backfire on them with any capacity to draw any big names.

UK celebrity big brother has relied upon international names to create contrast and drama, which isn’t likely to be possible for this series. And the tone of local folks forming collective relationship has already been established by I’m a Celeb and is in contrast to the big brother format. This could very well struggle.

    1. I think its best to view this as separate to CelebBBUK (Drama for the sake of drama) & I’m A Celeb (Camp Kumbaya) – The new BB format is based on the Housemates voting each other off, so the drama should be there if the Celeb Housemates are motivated to win and eager to plot & scheme

  6. The problem is that in 2002 this was a novelty.

Today it will play like an “I’m a Celebrity…”, but with air conditioning and no blowfly munchies on the menu.

  7. Now that’s a curveball! I wasn’t expecting a Celebrity Big Brother to be announced for filming today! I fear the D-list celebrities we will get… I assume Sonia Kruger is returning to host? If the current house is empty, maybe they might consider re-filming on the Gold Coast, or moving production to Melbourne?

  8. Gotta say… I am a huge fan of the Holey Moley announcement today this not so much. While I thought BB was an alright much two series in one year will be overkill.

  9. Interesting they didn’t film this on the back end of the regular series. Going into a new house with celebrities might increase some interest.

Why they just can’t call it Celebrity Big Brother like the rest of the world though is beyond me…

    1. I’d say because the viewers will have a tough time knowing who the “celebrities” are, so they’ll go with VIPs, that way they can cast a footballers wife with an Instagram following and someone from Sydney radio, and a former sports player.

      1. Excellent point… this way it allows them to bring Schapelle Corby in and not get the back lash of her not being a “celebrity” (I’d argue she’s also not VIP. Not even IP).
