US to pilot Total Control adaptation

US version will centre around an American indigenous character who juggles family & culture as she enters politics.

US broadcaster ABC is adapting Total Control for a pilot, to centre around an American indigenous character.

Dark Horse will be written by William Jehu Garroutte (Stumptown), a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, with Jessica Goldberg (The Path) as showrunner and produced by Keshet Studios, Universal Television, and ABC Signature.

Executive producing are Keshet’s Peter Traugott, Avi Nir and Alon Shtruzmanm, Rachel Griffiths and Darren Dale and Miranda Dear of Blackfella Films.

The central character Alex Irving, is described as a passionate Indigenous woman, on her unconventional journey into politics. As Alex reckons with her own troubled past, she juggles obligations to her family, to her culture, and to a political system that’s never seen anybody quite like her.

A second season is also due later this year on ABC, to film in Canberra, Sydney and regional Queensland.
