What does Mike Sneesby watch?

Incoming Nine CEO Mike Sneesby keeps his cards close to his chest on his plans and his favourites.

He’s the Stan man who is set to become Nine’s new CEO next month.

But what does Mike Sneesby enjoy watching?

Like a true CEO he is keeping his cards close to his chest.

At last week’s press conference he said, “When I talk about television in general, and that applies whether it’s through a means of broadcast or internet delivery or any other form of content for that matter, we’re competing for people’s time and attention. For me, particularly with the breadth of content that we have across this organisation, that is distributed quite thinly across all of our content and our journalism, for that matter. I do watch and read across all platforms and that obviously varies from from time to time, depending on what the what the mood is and what the current subject is.”

Asked if he had a personal ‘wish list’ on where he wanted to take Nine Entertainment he said, “It’s early days. As I mentioned the role kicks off on the first of April. I’d like to spend that period between now and then to really understand the organisation, but also to work closely with the Board to set those objectives. I clearly have a view on that but I think it would be too early for me to be out here shooting off a view on what I think the priorities are in the organisation.”

He also declined to indicate his favourite sports teams, stating, “There’s only one outcome for me with that question… making sure there are a bunch of people offside with me. I’m going to hold back in talking about favourite sporting teams!”

Meanwhile Nine Chairman Peter Costello indicated one of the reasons Sneesby was selected was his success in driving Stan subscriptions. Nine has a target of more than 35% of group revenue from subscriptions by 2024.

He added, “In a business like this, whether it be in the publications or television business, increasingly revenue will come from subscriptions.”
