Writers’ Guild of America Awards 2021: winners

Wins for Aussie writer Tony McNamara, Ted Lasso, The Crown & Mrs. America.

Australian writer Tony McNamara has won a Writers’ Guild of America Award for his comedy series The Great, which screens locally on Stan.

It took out the Episodic Comedy award, beating out Ted Lasso, High Maintenance, Grace & Frankie, Dead to Me and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.

But Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso was still a big winner, taking both the Comedy Series and New Series categories.

The Crown, The Queen’s Gambit, Mrs America and Ozark were also awarded in the virtual presentation.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm also won the Adapted Screenplay in the Film section.
